Bioshock

I'd heard so much about this game, but never got around to buying it for the PC. After getting an XBOX 360 for christmas, I thought...finally, I'll get the game. It arrived on my doorstep this afternoon...

I've only played it for roughly an hour [stupid post not arriving till 12:30pm, and me having work at 3:00pm], but jesus-tapdancing-christ I can see how good this game is.

Having been a huge fan of System Shock 2, like many others, I had extremely high hopes for this game [once I learned it was the same people behind it, of course]. While it may not be as "technical" as SS2, this does not peel away any enjoyment from the game [and remember, I've only got to the second level so far].

The story, as you may or may not know, sees the plane you were travelling on crash-land into the sea. As the only survivor, you swim to the nearest haven you can find - what looks to be a lighthouse. As you decend into this building, it becomes instantly apparent to you that this is something far less ordinary than you first imagined.

Contained within some sort of "elevator", you are greeted with a TV screen, which talks of a place free from tyranny and government...Rapture. It is at this point that the screen lifts, and you get your first glimpse of the fantastically beautiful underwater city of Rapture.

From that point on, the game - much like SS2 - through the helpful use of audio logs and fantastic edge-of-the-seat sequences, conveys a truly atmospheric and sometimes frightening story.

Gorgeous game, fantastic story and terrific voice acting. Once again, these are my impressions from a mere hour or two play time. I can't wait to carry on to see what else awaits me down in rapture.

And look, the wrench - although a different colour - still makes an appearance. You ain't gonna kill the big daddy with just that, I promise you...
